Vocational Training Programs
Training Today's Youth for Tomorrow's JobsCascades Job Corps Center offers 11 vocational training programs. All programs are instructed by highly professional and competent instructors with many years of industry and teaching experience. During your training you are ON THE JOB. Your instructor is your supervisor and you are evaluated as an employee. It is important that you be on time and on task everyday, and work a full day. As your supervisor, your instructor will be giving you feedback on your performance during your training, and will be a strong source of reference with prospective employers when you complete the program. A positive attitude and hard work assures a positive reference upon completion. Demonstrated proficiency in math and reading as measured on the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE), are general requirements for entry into and completion of a vocational program. Obtaining a GED or high school diploma, and successful completion of work-based learning are requirements for graduation. (Some trades also require a driver's license to be eligible for graduation.) Graduates are placed with national and regional companies throughout the Pacific Northwest and in other parts of the country. Students from Cascade's Facilities Maintenance program have been hired as building maintenance technicians by Red Lion Inn in the Seattle area and Cascade West Apartments in Mount Vernon, as well as by residential construction and light commerical subcontractors in the region. Culinary Arts specialists and cook assistants have been hired by Life Care Centers of America for several convalescent care centers. Plasterer's apprentices have been hired by Butler Construction and Lanco Construction; Electricians by Toika Electric, Inc. in Lynnwood. These are just a few of many regional companies who have found Cascades graduates to be outstanding employees. Non-Union Center Operated Programs
